POSITION SUMMARY:
Horizon Health Network is currently seeking a Vascular Surgeon to join the Department Vascular Surgery at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

The practice is a comprehensive, full-time community-based practice in Vascular Surgery and provides inpatient and outpatient services for the Fredericton, Upper River Valley, and surrounding areas.

The Chalmers Hospital is a level 2 Trauma Centre and regional referral hospital with 314 beds and a new twelve-bed intensive care unit, serving a catchment population of approximately 175,000.

New ORs and Labor & Delivery units are currently under construction, scheduled to open in late 2024. This will include 10 operating theatres.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide an outpatient service for the assessment and management of both new and follow-up patients.
• Provide inpatient care including daily rounds on patients.
• Provide consultations to hospital-based patients as requested by attending staff.
• Provide telephone consultation to colleagues.
• Teaching responsibilities for residents and medical students.
• Teaching responsibilities for nursing and peers as appropriate.
• Participate in departmental and other appropriate surgical program committees.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address staff and patient education needs.
• Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate.
• Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.
• Participate in the on-call rota of the Department Vascular Surgery.
• Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority’s mission, values, and strategic directions.
• Within the confines of this scope of practice and position description, provide other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be required by the Head of the Department of Vascular Surgery, the Chief of Surgery, the Chief of Staff, and/or Medical Director.

(Note: These responsibilities are the basic and prime duties associated with this position; other related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may be necessary to the operation of Horizon Health Network.)

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Attend appropriate continuing professional development events to meet the requirements of the Royal College.
• Comply with the policies and procedures of the Department of Surgery.
• Comply with the provisions of the Hospital Act, the Regional Health Authorities Act, Community Health Centre Regulation, the Medical Services Payment Act, and their regulations.
• Comply with the Health Authority bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies and procedures.
• Follow the Code of Ethics of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick and the Canadian Medical Association.

Remuneration
Remuneration
Standard remuneration is Fee-for-Service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. On call remuneration is provided. No source deductions can be provided. Average remuneration for a vascular surgeon in New Brunswick was an annual salary of $583,143 during the 2022/23 fiscal year.

Physicians may be eligible for a $50,000.00 provincial incentive accompanied by a 2 year return of service.

Physicians may be eligible for up to $8000.00 in moving expense allowances.

Every physician licensed in the province must be a member of the New Brunswick Medical Society. With that membership, comes many benefits. Such benefits include, but are not limited to:
• Supplementary funding for continuing medical education of up to $4300.00/year.
• Parental leave support (FFS physicians only). NBMS has one of the best Parental Leave programs in Canada. The program pays eligible physicians $2000.00/month to a maximum of 26 consecutive weeks. Eligible physicians can continue to bill up to $1200/week of fee for service billings while in the program.

• Fellow Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
• Experience in EVAR and other percutaneous endovascular techniques required.
• Must have current malpractice insurance from the CMPA, appropriate to the category of practice.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team building skills.
