The Max Rady College of Medicine and Shared Health are seeking an individual to provide outstanding leadership for the position of Head of the Department of Otolaryngology, Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba and Provincial Representative, Otolaryngology, Shared Health commensurate with qualifications and experience for a five-year term commencing January 1, 2025, or as soon thereafter as possible. This opportunity presents the challenge of overseeing a department based on solid foundation of the discipline and innovative models of teaching and research collaboration, and clinical care across the province. The successful applicant will be a GFT at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor. A stipend will be provided for the duration of the appointment.

The University of Manitoba, Max Rady College of Medicine, is a major centre of medical education and research linked to sister institutions throughout Canada and the world. It offers a full range of undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs. The Department of Otolaryngology is a busy academic and clinical department within the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. Working within the University, Shared Health, and CancerCare Manitoba, our mission is to provide our patients with the highest quality of care in a timely fashion, engage in clinical and basic research, and provide educational opportunities in the field of Otolaryngology. Our faculty includes surgeons who practice general Otolaryngology, and those who have acquired subspecialty training abroad in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology, Pediatric Otolaryngology, Otology/Neurotology, Laryngology and Rhinology/Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgery. We are leaders in minimally invasive cancer surgery, endoscopic skull base surgery, treatment of middle and inner ear disorders, and the care of children with ear, nose, and throat disorders. The Head will work closely with the Provincial Specialty Lead for Surgery in Shared Health/WRHA, and Site Surgery Leaders across the province.

The successful candidate will have a substantial record and achievement in Otolaryngology and extensive experience in teaching, research, administrative experience, and leadership involving such activities as faculty mentorship, cross-disciplinary collaborative research, curriculum organization, health system planning, and participation in the recruitment, appointment, and promotion of colleagues. Notable contributions to faculty and university service are desirable and recognition in national and international contexts is expected.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Certification in Otolaryngology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is required. From a clinical perspective, the successful candidate will have extensive experience providing patient care as an Otolaryngologist in any clinical setting. Experience in varied clinical settings is preferred as is experience working in multi-professional teams. The successful candidate is also expected to promote an inclusive environment.
