The Opportunity
Our Palliative Care group has an opening for a permanent full-time Palliative Care Physician. As part of this role, we would expect the following:
· Provide continuous care to a roster of patients across hospital and community settings, including Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC), Hospice Peterborough, and patient homes.
· Accept referrals through Hospice Peterborough for community palliative care patients and, when on call, through PRHC for hospitalized patients.
· Act as Most Responsible Provider (MRP) for a roster of palliative inpatients on D2 on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., unless arrangements for coverage by a colleague have been made.
· Directly admit palliative patients to D2 from the community and via the emergency department, when required.
· Share on-call coverage through the Community Palliative On-Call (CPOC) program on weekdays and weekends, with roughly five (5) shifts each month.
· Participate in teaching and supervising of medical learners (e.g. family medicine residents) as they rotate through palliative care.
· There could be an opportunity to participate in outpatient symptom management clinics, if desired.
· Attend Professional Staff Association meetings, as outlined in PRHC’s Professional Staff Bylaw

Position Qualifications:
· Currently registered with or eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
· Certification from the College of Family Physician of Canada or Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians of Canada Completion of PGY3 Enhanced Skills considered an asset.
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, nursing staff, patients, directors, managers and community representatives as required.
· Demonstrated analytical ability.
· Actively encourage a spirit of co-operation amongst team members.
· Eligible for staff privileges at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
· Evidence of ongoing continued medical education.
