Medical Office Assistant (MOA) Job in Vancouver – General Surgery Practice at Vancouver General Hospital


Are you a Medical Office Assistant who values excellence in all you do, who interacts with your patients with compassion and tactfulness, and who loves to be organized and self-initiated? Then our practice would love to hear from you! You will be working primarily under one General Surgeon who is building a small team around the pillars of clear communication, mutual respect, and the pursuit of excellence.

Our practice is based at Vancouver General Hospital (Diamond Health Care Centre). The position is 24 hours per week, generally 3 days per week Tuesday to Thursday. The ideal candidate is looking for a long-term permanent position.


You will serve as the first point of contact with all patients, referring offices, and medical professionals. You will

• Ensure surgeon productivity by maintaining a full clinical and OR calendar by scheduling and proactively rescheduling patient appointments
• Greet patients in a welcoming and professional manner
• Provide patient education prior to patient visits
• Maintain up-to-date patient records in the electronic medical records (EMR) system
• Guarantee complete patient confidentiality
• Ensure the timely return of all phone calls, e-mails, and faxes 100% of the time according to an agreed upon service standard


This position requires an efficient, well-organized individual with excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills. Completion of a Medical Office Assistant Program from a recognized institution and at least one year of related experience is preferred.

The ideal candidate will also possess these qualities:

• Knowledge of clinical and office procedures
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Ability to learn surgical principles and postoperative management
• Proficiency in using EMR systems or the ability to quickly learn
• Strong customer service and business communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to work independently and within a team
• Ability to maintain respectful and effective work relationships with patients and coworkers
• Proficiency using all standard office equipment and software
• Interest in patient health care and well-being
• Eagerness to continuously learn and evolve


A competitive annual salary commensurate with experience along with access to health and dental benefits will be provided. $23-26 per hour.
