The Department of Anesthesiology at the Prince County Hospital has locum opportunities beginning immediately to provide support to a complement of four specialists.
Located in Summerside, the Prince County Hospital is a 110-bed regional hospital with a six bed ICU that provides specialty services in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Anesthesia, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, ENT and Psychiatry.

The Prince County Hospital is operated by Health PEI, a crown corporation responsible for the deliver of publicly funded health services in Prince Edward Island. Health PEI’s head office is located at 16 Garfield Street, Charlottetown, PEI.

Remuneration
Remuneration
Up to 37.5 hours/week to a maximum 1725 hours/year for contact for service physicians.

Remuneration Options:

1. Daily Rate

Monday-Friday
Day List not on call | $1500/day
Day List plus on call | $2000/day
Day List post call, not on call | $2000/day
Day List plus call on post call day | $2500/day
On Call only | $2000/day
Saturday-Sunday
On Call (no day list on w/e) | $2000/day
7+ Consecutive Days On Call
On Call | $3000/day
2. Contract hourly rate ranging from$145.00 – $165.57 (as of April 1, 2023) depending on years of service

3. Fee For Service

If you were to sign on as a long-term locum, providing 6 months or more of services, you would be eligible for the Blended Payment which is 31% of your shadow billings; the shadow billings payment would be paid quarterly. To qualify for this incentive, contract hourly rate must be the chosen pay modality.

Locum Supports:

Reimbursement of the MCC-AMR Application Fee and PEI Application Fee costs when you apply for licensing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI online through Physicians Apply.
Coverage of the cost of locum license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI.
Coverage of registration fees with the Medical Society of PEI.
Locums coming from out of province and who are not Island residents are also eligible for the following:

Coverage of hotel accommodations during the length of the locum Anesthetist’s stay on Prince Edward Island, up to a maximum of $300 per night.
$100 per day living expense stipend will be provided for the days worked during the locum period.
Paid actual travel time ($50/hour) from home province to Prince Edward Island and return will be covered.
Cost of one return travel to Prince Edward Island based on an economy airfare to a maximum of $2,000. If traveling by car, mileage will be reimbursed as determined by PEI Treasury Board Policy and bridge and road tolls reimbursed with submission of receipts. Reimbursement for travel by car is not to exceed the cost of economy airfare.
Coverage of car rental up to $1400 per week.
Car rental and accommodations exceeding the rates indicated above require advance
approval by the Locum Program Coordinator. 
Qualification Requirements
Education
CCFP- FPA Certification
Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island
Appointment to the Health PEI Medical Staff and appropriate privileging;
US Boards are acceptable;
Work experience preferable.
Atlantic Registry

Starting May 1, 2023, physicians whose primary practice is in Atlantic Canada (and hold a general registration in either PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland and Labrador) may be eligible to obtain registration to practice in all four Atlantic Canadian provinces via the Atlantic Registry. Health Care Workers are required to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination as per Health PEI’s Covid-19 Immunization and Management Policy.
