Out of Province Short-Term Locums
*Short term offerings – 1-10 days worked per month
Remuneration Option:

Daily Rate- 24-hr call

Option 1: Flat daily rate- $3100 + $498 Critical Care Retention Payment, plus Fee-for- Service for approved diagnostic tests
OR

Option 2: Flat daily rate – $2300 for day and Fee-for-Service after 5pm + $498 Critical Care Retention Payment
Day shift without call (8am – 5pm, Mon-Fri)

Flat daily rate – $2000.
Night call only – 5pm – 8am

Fee-for-Service + on-call retainer + $498 Critical Care Retention Payment
Job Duties for Locums receiving the above noted rates:

To be on-call,
To be MRP for critical care patients within the facility,
To respond to the ED for consults,
Any other duties as required by Health
(Holiday/weekend premiums are accounted for in flat rate)
Physicians being remunerated under the daily rate model do not qualify for Blended. Post call days will not be Locums will be eligible for supports on off days as outlined in their Letter of Intent. The flat daily rate is inclusive of on-call retainer.

Out of Province Long-Term Locums
*Working at least 10 days a month for no less than 6 months with a defined start and end date
Remuneration Options:

OOP Short Term Locum – Travelling from outside of PEI

Reimbursement of the MCC-AMR Application Fee and PEI Application Fee costs with Physicians Apply;
Reimbursement of cost of license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI.
Coverage of dues with Medical Society of PEI.
Coverage of hotel accommodations during the length of the locum Physician’s stay on Prince Edward Island, up to a maximum of $300 per night with receipt
$100 per day living expense stipend will be provided for the days worked during the locum period.
Paid actual travel time ($50/hour) from home province to Prince Edward Island and return will be covered.
Cost of one return travel to Prince Edward Island based on an economy airfare to a maximum of $2,000. If traveling by car, mileage will be reimbursed as determined by PEI Treasury Board Policy and bridge and road tolls reimbursed with submission of receipts. Reimbursement for travel by car is not to exceed the cost of economy airfare.
Coverage of car rental up to $1400 per week

**Car rental and accommodations exceeding the rates indicated above require advance approval by the Locum Program Coordinator.

In Province Locum Supports
Where an island physician agrees, at the request of Health PEI, to work at a facility other than their home facility * for the purpose of covering staffing shortages, they are eligible for the following travel allowances:
If the temporary work location is greater than 10km from your home facility, you may claim mileage at the PEI government rate for travel based on the distance to and from your home facility to the temporary location.
Travel time will be reimbursed based on $50 per hour for the same distance as the mileage.
Expenses for hotel accommodations (supported by receipts) may be claimed with preapproval by Medical Affairs. Hotel accommodations will be considered where extenuating circumstances warrant such as long travel times during off hours, or short intervals between shifts. 
Qualification Requirements
Education
FRCPC or eligibility for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification;
Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island; and
Appointment to the Health PEI Medical Staff and appropriate privileging.
Atlantic Registry

Starting May 1, 2023, physicians whose primary practice is in Atlantic Canada (and hold a general registration in either PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland and Labrador) may be eligible to obtain registration to practice in all four Atlantic Canadian provinces via the Atlantic Registry. Health Care Workers are required to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination as per Health PEI’s Covid-19 Immunization and Management Policy. If a new hire is unable to be vaccinated as a result of a medical exemption, they will be required to submit supporting documentation to Employee Health / Wellness and Safety.
