As a General Practitioner- Oncology Support in the Horizon Health Network, Saint John area (Region 2), the physician will deliver inpatient services to cancer patients within a regional interdisciplinary team setting. The General Practitioner will collaborate with the Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, and Hematologists, for service delivery in the oncology inpatient clinic.

The GP Oncology Support physician will not take part or be responsible for the following:

· Oncology call schedule/weekend calls.

· Inpatient oncology consultations.

· Any New consults.

· Assist with providing hospitalist care to patients admitted under the Radiation Oncology service Monday-Friday. The average workload is 5 inpatients, with a range of 2-10 inpatients.

· Provision of survivorship care for patients who have completed active cancer treatment and require ongoing monitoring of their disease.

· Assisting care to patients receiving radiation therapy and side effects of treatments in radiation review/oncology clinic area as needed.

· To offer palliative symptom management and liaise with the division of palliative medicine when appropriate.

· Responsible for dictating and signing off clinical encounters and discharge summaries.

· Complete forms and necessary written referrals to help with patient discharge/transfer to other hospital as needed.

· Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority’s mission, values, and strategic directions.

· Other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by the Department head of Oncology and the Chief of Staff.

Note: These responsibilities are the basic and prime duties associated with this position; other related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may be necessary to the operation of Horizon Health Network.

The candidate will be remunerated on a salaried model.

· Annual salary of $184,444 - $216,190 
Billing / Overhead Split
 
Vacation / CME Leave
Maximum time away from the clinic per year is 6 weeks (i.e. vacation and CME). Any time away requires a request of leave to the Chief of Oncology and the Chief of Staff. 
Additional Benefits
· Those with a regular license are also eligible for benefits including Public Service Shared Risk Pension Plan, long-term disability, basic group life insurance and optional supplemental coverage, 1.25 sick days/month to a maximum of 240 days, health/travel and dental insurance and others as stipulated in the Management & Non-Union Employees Human Resources Policies– Part III of the Public Service.

$50,000.00 accompanied by a 2 year return of service for eligible physicians as approved by the Department of Health.

Relocation reimbursement of up to $8,000 for eligible physicians

· Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick

· Member in good standing with the New Brunswick Medical Society.

· Active membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association or equivalent liability insurance association.

· Verification of good standing within Professional Association (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; College of Family Physicians of Canada: American Board, or equivalent specialty association).

· Excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills.

· Good attendance and work record.

· Physically able to perform assigned duties.

Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital is the largest tertiary care hospital in New Brunswick and is the primary health care referral centre for this area and to all New Brunswickers for major trauma and cardiac care.

The New Brunswick Trauma Program, New Brunswick Heart Centre, and the New Brunswick Stem Cell Transplant Centre are located within the hospital, as are Radiation Oncology and Nephrology services. This site offers autologous stem cell therapy and a stem cell processing laboratory.

The Saint John Regional Hospital also serves as the centre for Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick’s distributed medical education program. The hospital services a catchment population of 170,000 people.
