The Department of Medicine at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC) is seeking a part-time nephrologist to join our group. The successful candidate will be working alongside 3 other Nephrologist and several nursing and allied health team members providing full-spectrum outpatient and inpatient and acute nephrology care at Northern Health’s main regional site in Prince George. Responsibilities of the incumbent in this position include: • Minimum 0.5 (half time) coverage of scheduled nephrologist roster. • This will include 16-17 weeks of scheduled nephrology coverage per year (includes appox. 8 weeks of hemodialysis/acute inpatients and 8 weeks of outpatient clinics) • Minimum 0.5 (half time) out of hours General Internal Medicine call (1600-0800) and weekend, around 1:14 • Minimum 8 weeks of Nephrology call (MOCAP Level 2) coinciding with hemodialysis and inpatient nephrology weeks • Opportunity to share a private office in the community • Outreach visits to CDU (Terrace and Fort St. John) twice a year (pro-rata) • Participation in BC Renal committee work • Participating in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education Northern Health’s regional kidney care program is responsible for providing kidney care services to the entire Northern BC region with a catchment population of about 400,000 with many rural and remote communities. Our regional kidney care program is an active partner with BC Renal and adheres to the highest standards of clinical care to provide care to our clients closer to home. Our services include: • In-centre Hemodialysis unit with 18 hemodialysis stations at UHNBC Prince George • Three community dialysis units: Northern Independent community hemodialysis unit, in Parkwood Plaza, Prince George, North-West community dialysis unit in Terrace, BC and Fort St. John community dialysis unit. • Multi-disciplinary Clinics based at UHNBC site: Kidney Care Clinics, Transplant Clinic, Home PD Clinic and Hemodialysis Clinics • Dedicated dialysis access clinic led by vascular surgeon • Established workflow for virtual Health appointments in all clinics using Telehealth and Zoom platforms. The position offers a unique blend of community practice and academic opportunities. Interested candidates will have flexible opportunities to develop their practice, job share with another part-time nephrologist colleague while still having plenty of time to take advantage of the great outdoors and achieve work life balance. The Department of Medicine currently includes members from general internal medicine and many sub-specialty divisions including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Infectious Disease, Respirology, Neurology, Dermatology, Rheumatology and Endocrinology. Inpatient care under internal medicine is organized into 2 inpatient services: Clinical Teaching Unit and General Internal Medicine Unit. Although, inpatient service weeks are predominantly covered by general internist, all subspecialists share out of hours’ IM call 1:7 and inpatient weeks (minimum 2 weeks/year). There is a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit with a separate call roster which operates as a closed unit and is staffed by intensivists. The BC Cancer Centre for the North is situated on the hospital site and includes radiation and medical oncology services. The ongoing development as a regional teaching and research hub makes this an exciting time to join the medical community in Prince George. Prince George is the centre of business, education, health and culture for northern BC, servicing an approx. rural population of 400,000 over an area of 600,000 square kilometers. In order to be eligible for licensure in BC, your postgraduate training must meet the requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Post graduate training must be obtained from an accredited and approved training program in a jurisdiction sanctioned by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
