The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) and The University of Manitoba, Department of Internal Medicine (business addresses noted below), are inviting applications for a full-time Electrophysiologist to fill our labour shortage in Manitoba. Main job duties include diagnose and treatment of diseases, prescribing medications and treatment, ordering lab tests and x-rays and other diagnostic procedures, consulting with other physicians as required, which job duties encompass 85% of the position.
The successful candidate would also be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, and appointed as a geographical full-time member of the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, which job duties encompasses 15% of the position. Job duties are required in English.
There are presently 31 full-time academic cardiologists within the Section of Cardiology with major clinical and investigative responsibilities in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, echocardiography, cardiac computed tomography and magnetic resonance, nuclear cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, palliative care, and heart failure and cardiac transplantation.
This is an academic position with substantial cardiac resources within the region, primarily at two academic health centres (St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre), serving the needs of Manitoba, Nunavut, and Northwestern Ontario, with a catchment of over 1.3 million population. The arrhythmia/electrophysiology team is located at St. Boniface Hospital. There are two procedural labs providing device implantation and ablation services over a total of 10 full days a week. The device lab is one of the busiest in the country, with approximately 800 pacemaker and 300 high-powered device- related procedures per year. Advanced device procedures include implantation/revision of cardiac resynchronisation therapy devices, subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillators, leadless pacing, and conduction system pacing. Approximately 800 ablation procedures are projected to be completed in 2023. Ablation services provided include ablation of supraventricular tachycardias, cryoballoon and radiofrequency atrial fibrillation ablation, ablation of complex atrial arrhythmias requiring 3D electroanatomical mapping, and ablation of ventricular arrhythmias in both structurally normal and abnormal hearts. Zero fluoroscopy procedures are facilitated by the availability of local mapping expertise and intracardiac echocardiography. Inpatient consultative services are provided for a large patient population with a variety of comorbidites and acuity Outpatient arrhythmia services are provided through physician-run clinics, a nurse practitioner-led atrial fibirillation clinic, and a nurse-run device clinic. The device clinic sees a very high volume of patients, with approximately 6000 pacemaker visits, 3000 ICD visits and 5000 remote encounters per year. The arrhythmia team is actively involved in clinical trials and is recognized nationally in the electrophysiology community. While not considered mandatory, additional proficiency in areas such as cardiogenetics, advanced VT ablation (epicardial access, bipolar RF, alcohol septal ablation), laser lead extraction, and/or familiarity with pulsed-field ablation would be considered favourably.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree with specialization in Cardiology. The successful candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Additional training in electrophysiology required.
