Details:

Shared Health is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Medical Director, Health Sciences Centre (HSC) Adult Emergency Department (ED).
Reporting to the Medical Director, HSC Adult ED, the incumbent’s primary responsibility is to assist the HSC ED Medical Director in his/her duties and responsibilities which will include but are not limited to:

Administrative:
• Ensure the proper overall operations of the Emergency Department including:
o Coordinate clinical care of the ED and ensure the development of proper protocols, procedures and interfaces with medical staff outside of the ED.
o Foster inter-disciplinary communication within the ED including the coordination of site department meetings
o Actively participate in bed management as it relates to the Emergency Department; including evaluation of patients physically in the Emergency Department and Observation Unit and facilitate proper disposition.
o Promote ideas for improving the efficiency of ED or process changes that could improve timeliness of decision making in ED.
o Respond to problems in a timely fashion.
o Participate in ED data base development including bed utilization.
o Respond to medical staff concerns.
o Respond to nursing and allied health staff concerns.
o Respond to administration concerns.
o Respond to community concerns.

• Participate in hospital risk management efforts.
• Participate in ED database development including bed utilization
• Respond to medical staff concerns.
• Respond to nursing and allied health staff concerns.
• Respond to administration concerns.

Academic & Scholarly:
• Facilitate the undergraduate and postgraduate medical training program in the Emergency Department.
• Participate in academic activities (lectures, courses, etc.).
• Participate in personal continuing medical education.
• Participate in clinical research activities when applicable.
• Participate in training of paramedical and other non-physician personnel.
• Foster research within the Emergency Program and among other Programs.
• Ensure the full participation of Emergency Physicians in the FRCP, CCFP and under-graduate training programs.
• Actively participate in the training and evaluation of Residents and Students.
• Participate in scholarly activities.
• Provide academic leadership.

The incumbent will also be expected to participate in the clinical rotation at HSC and other duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Medical degree from a recognized university
• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Emergency Medicine) or Certificant of College of Family Physicians of Canada (Emergency Medicine) or ABEM (American Board of Emergency Medicine)
• Eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.
• Eligible for a medical staff appointment with Shared Health
