Details: Shared Health (1502-155 Carlton Street, Winnipeg MB R3C 3H8), and The University of Manitoba, Department of Internal Medicine (business addresses noted below), are inviting applications for a temporary, full-time Critical Care specialist physician to fill our labour shortage in Manitoba. Main job duties include diagnose and treatment of diseases, prescribing medications and treatment, refer for surgery, ordering lab tests and x-rays and other diagnostic procedures, physician investigation, consulting with other physicians as required, and medical research, which job duties encompass 90% of the position. The successful candidate would also be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (dependent on qualifications and experience), and appointed as a geographical full-time member of the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, which job duties encompasses 10% of the position. Job duties are required in English. The Section of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Manitoba is a busy enterprise, both clinically and academically. The ICUs provide critical care services for adults from Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, and Nunavut. They provide advanced support capability including invasive mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement therapy and Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). Approximately 5000 patients are admitted to our ICUs annually. These ICUs are staffed from the departments of Internal Medicine, Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine, and Surgery. Our faculty provide Critical Care education for medical students, residents and fellows. We also perform a variety of ICU-related research, that includes both clinical and basic research. Qualifications: The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree with specialization in Internal Medicine and Critical Care. The successful candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Seven years of professional experience since completing Critical Care training required. The successful candidate will have expertise and a proven track record in human clinical trials and studies using large, existing datasets, a strong record of publications in high impact journals, proven ability to obtain peer-reviewed research funding from recognized grant agencies and a high capacity to successfully interact and collaborate with other clinical and basic scientists locally and/or abroad. Compensation: Compensation is derived from a blending of fee-for-service income (wage range approximately $350,000 to $500,000) plus an additional stipend of $55,375.00.
