The University of Manitoba, Department of Surgery, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Shared Health Manitoba invite applications for two Academic Trauma/Acute Care Surgeons to start in 2020. Each of these positions will have its main focus on our busy Trauma and Acute Care Surgical Service at the Health Sciences Centre (HSC) in Winnipeg. Further clinical work in General Surgery and Endoscopy would be desired in any applicants. The candidate(s) will be expected to provide exemplary teaching in Trauma and General Surgery to the many learners on our service and within the PGME Program. Research opportunities are available and encouraged for all applicants.


These are geographical full-time, contingent positions and the successful candidates will be eligible for appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor (or higher depending on current academic rank) in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. The successful candidates should be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.


Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

HSC is a busy tertiary care/trauma centre for the Province of Manitoba. It is the only trauma centre in the province and has a catchment area for over 1.1 million people and covers the entire province of Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario and Nunavut. Annually there are approximately 2500 trauma admissions of which 500 are major trauma patients. In addition to trauma, the candidate would also be expected to cover acute care surgical patients seen through the HSC ER and provide surgical care as part of our team.
