The Max Rady College of Medicine and Shared Health are seeking an individual to provide outstanding leadership for the position of Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba and Provincial Specialty Lead, Emergency Medicine, Shared Health commensurate with qualifications and experience for a five-year term commencing April 1, 2020 or as soon thereafter as possible.

This opportunity presents the challenge of overseeing a department based on solid foundation of the discipline and innovative models of teaching and research collaboration, and clinical care across the province. The successful applicant will be, or expected to become, a GFT at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor. A stipend will be provided for the duration of the appointment. The University of Manitoba, Max Rady College of Medicine, is a major centre of medical education and research linked to many institutions throughout Canada and the world. It offers a full range of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs. The Department of Emergency Medicine provides recruitment, clinical teaching, training and support to undergraduate and postgraduate students, residents and fellows. Education and training are provided predominantly at Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface Hospital. Additional training sites include Grace Hospital, several community hospitals in Winnipeg, and Brandon Hospital. Shared Health is a provincial organization responsible for planning, quality improvement, patient safety, standards, and innovation while ensuing a sustainable/cost-effective health care system. The successful candidate will be the lead advisor within Shared Health on all aspects of emergency medical care in the province.


The successful candidate will have a substantial record of achievement in Emergency Medicine, and extensive experience in teaching, research, administrative activities, leadership, faculty mentorship, cross-disciplinary collaborative research, curriculum development/organization, and participation in the recruitment, appointment and promotion of colleagues. Notable contributions to faculty and university service are desirable, and recognition in national and international contexts is an asset. Candidates should have the ability to communicate, see connections, and reach out and establish good relationships throughout the University/the province/nationally. Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. From a clinical perspective, the successful candidate will have extensive experience providing patient care in an Emergency Medicine setting. The successful candidate must be recognized as a clinical leader in Emergency Medicine. Experience in varied clinical settings is preferred as is experience working in multi-professional teams. The successful candidate is also expected to promote an inclusive environment.
