Academic Geriatric Psychiatrist

St Michael’s Hospital, a fully affiliated teaching site for the University of Toronto along with Providence Healthcare is seeking a full-time geriatric psychiatrist and or neuropsychiatrist to support its Mental Health & Addictions Service.
Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, St. Michael’s Hospital is a leading urban academic health science centre http://www.stmichaelshospital.com/. Through its strengths in research, clinical innovation and education and clinical services to both hospital and community, the newly formed network provides tremendous opportunity as a continuum of care within a living laboratory committed to improving the health of marginalized populations and health system equity, urban health, critical care/trauma and translational research.
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto has one of the largest concentrations of faculty and students in the mental health field in the world (http://www.utpsychiatry.ca/).
Applicants must hold an MD, and be certified or eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Candidates should be eligible for full-time academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto. Additional qualifications are Master’s or PhD, expertise or scholarship in geriatric and/or neuropsychiatry and a proven record of accomplishment in research including expertise and experience in neuropsychiatric research and intervention for mood, cognitive and neurologic conditions. The candidate must be able to function proficiently in English.
The successful candidate will join our existing geriatric psychiatry team supporting a combination of Long-Term Care outreach, consultation liaison and outpatient psychogeriatric/memory clinic including teaching and supervision of psychiatry residents, subspecialty fellows and medical students and trainees. Clinical time will be divided between St. Michael’s Hospital and Providence Healthcare sites and arranged in alignment with clinical duties.
The successful candidate is expected to participate in scholarship and research including excellence in teaching, education, research, innovation, quality improvement or creative professional activity and be a strong team player equipped to work in an active collaborative clinical environment be dedicated to the highest quality of patient care.
Research funding and scholarship support could be available to the qualified candidate, along with the opportunity for a research appointment within the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and/or Keenan Research Centre at St. Michael’s Hospital and the Neuroscience Research Program.
Compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed (estimate based on fee-for-service billings and other sources of compensation) and will be in the usual range for an Academic Geriatric Psychiatrist in the Province of Ontario at approximately $275K to $350K per annum and commensurate with academic rank, qualifications, and experience.
