The Division of General Surgery at the University Health Network and the University of Toronto are inviting applications for a full time faculty position as the Section Head of Breast Surgical Oncology and the Gattuso Chair in Breast Surgical Oncology, in the Division of General Surgery, at the level of Associate or Full Professor. The effective date of this position is flexible, but preferably March 1, 2020. The successful candidate will lead the breast surgical oncology program and help lead the academic mission of the Division of General Surgery at the University Health Network, which is an academic institution affiliated with the University of Toronto. The University Health Network is comprised of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and the Michener Institute. The breast surgical oncology program at UHN is recognized internationally for excellence in patient care, innovation, research and education. The Division of General Surgery currently has 23 surgeons, 5 of whom specialize in breast surgical oncology. Responsibilities of the Section Head and the Gattuso Chair will include leading research and clinical care, and continuing to grow the profile of breast surgery at UHN. This will be accomplished in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team within the breast site group at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The Section Head and the Gattuso Chair will develop clinical policies and pathways for breast cancer care at UHN and expand the breast program in both volume and research. The successful applicant will have demonstrated a strong academic commitment, manifested by prior publications and international collaborations in the field of interest. Evidence of productivity, innovation, excellence, and international leadership is essential. Other responsibilities will include practical and didactic teaching of General Surgery residents, as well as Breast Surgical Oncology and General Surgical Oncology Fellows, all of whom are on service continuously.
The successful candidate will be an actively practicing breast surgical oncologist and will have completed a residency program in general surgery as well as a breast surgery or Surgical Oncology Fellowship. The candidate will have demonstrated outstanding technical skills, the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and to teach trainees at all levels. It is expected that the successful candidate will have significant research experience, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and grant capture, and strong leadership skills, as demonstrated by prior leadership roles. The candidate will hold, or be eligible for, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and will be a FRCSC of the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. A graduate degree (Masters or PhD) would be an asset. The language of work is English.
