The largest diagnostic and acute care hospital in the West Kootenays, the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) is a 75-bed full service regional hospital serving 80,000 people in the Kootenay Boundary region. KBRH offers core specialist physician services including 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, a Level 2 Laboratory, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Acute and Obstetrical Care, Primary Care, Pediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Oncology, Radiology, and advanced diagnostic services.

Practice Details:
Interior Health Authority is currently recruiting for an experienced Canadian General Pathologist, or anatomic and clinical pathologist (AP/CP), for a three-person practice based at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital laboratory in Trail, British Columbia. The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of clinical practice experience, with strong skills in surgical pathology and laboratory diagnostics, including transfusion medicine and hematology. The candidate will need to be comfortable with independent practice in a small group environment. Additional fellowship training in surgical pathology, dermatopathology skills, and the ability to sign out cytology and bone marrow biopsies would be an asset. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to relate well with laboratory staff, clinicians, and administration.

The laboratory is part of the larger, integrated Interior Health Laboratory, a progressive and stable, multisite diagnostic laboratory system serving the patients of interior British Columbia. The hospital is a community training site for the UBC medical school and some medical student teaching is possible, although the position is primarily based in providing patient care.

Trail, British Columbia and surrounding communities offer an exceptional outdoors lifestyle, with outstanding recreational opportunities in a four-season climate. Miles of unspoiled hiking and mountain biking trails, lakes and streams, golf and watersports opportunities are available under an umbrella of towering alpine mountains and snow-capped peaks. In winter, the area is a destination for world-class nordic and downhill skiing, snowmobiling, or snowshoeing.

It’s better here!
