Summary
Physician Clinical Associate

British Columbia Children’s Hospital (BCCH) cares for the most acutely ill or injured children and youth. BCCH also provides developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC, and operates a wide number of specialized health programs provided through a number of health services provider groups. As the main pediatrics clinical training site for the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC), BCCH is the leading acute care teaching facility in the province, and conducts research to advance health and knowledge through the BC Children’s Research Institute, and collaborations with other institutions.

BCCH is an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) which plans, manages and evaluates specialty and province-wide health care services across BC. The BC Children’s and BC Women’s Redevelopment Project has opened a new Teck Acute Care Centre (TACC) at the Oak Street campus of the BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital + Health Care Centre.

The Oncology/Hematology/BMT program and inpatient unit, located in the new Teck Acute Care Centre, will feature 27 single-patient rooms. The new outpatient unit will feature 23 single-patient rooms. The program sees 140 new oncology patients and 400 new hematology consultations per year, and performs 25 transplants annually. Additionally, the program is a funded member of the Children’s Oncology Group and has a highly productive research program with over 3 million dollars of grant funding per year.

Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology & BMT
Department of Pediatrics

Reporting to the Division Head of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology & BMT, the position responsibilities include direct patient care (inpatient and outpatient), day to day management of patients as expected of a physician, including performing procedures, writing physician orders, attending rounds and team meetings and documenting a patient’s care.

Provision of care will be to both pediatric hematology and oncology patients. Responsibilities also include the maintenance of patient health records, dictations and signing off of reports in a timely manner and in accordance with the Division and C&W health record policies. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will ensure a high level of professional competence expected of a physician.

Additional Comments
The ideal candidate for this position will have a Medical Degree and must be eligible for registration with the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons. Experience in Pediatrics or pediatric hematology/oncology is considered an asset.

Candidates should possess excellent clinical skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively with families in the care of children. Be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to best practice and advancing knowledge in this field of practice. Strong inter-professional skills in working in complex environments and commitment to a clinical academic sub-specialty environment will ensure your success in this role.
