Job Posting
full time Physician - Psychiatry at Youth Outreach Mental Health Team, Vancouver, BC
Vancouver, British Columbia
Job ID: 5146

Summary
Child & Youth Psychiatrist

Vancouver Community Mental Health Services is currently in the process of improving services to vulnerable, disenfranchised youth and young adults in Vancouver. The psychiatrist who accepts this position will provide psychiatric management as part of a multi-disciplinary team to a diverse population of youth who present with mental health, addiction and medical issues. This is an exciting opportunity to work with young people who are otherwise not accessing traditional mental health services.

The psychiatrist will be part of the Youth Outreach Mental Health Program which takes a collaborative approach in working with youth who are often difficult to engage and have complex mental health and addiction needs. In addition to working with the Outreach team the Psychiatrist will provide Psychiatric support to an intensive case management team that covers low barrier housing, detox and substance use recovery beds.

The program is currently implementing a strategic plan that will improve the quality and accessibility of mental health services. Given the challenges faced by this population we will be looking for a psychiatrist who is creative and interested in innovative approaches to service provision. The physician interested in this position should be prepared to work with a diverse population and be aware of the cultural context of the work.

The psychiatrist will be involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of programs. There are additional opportunities to provide training and to conduct research. Participation in the community-based on-call group is optional.

Qualifications:
• A Medical Degree and eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
• Specialist qualifications in psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
• Eligibility for faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine is ideal.
• Additionally, the candidate should have:
• A demonstrated ability working as a member of an inter-professional health care team.
• Experience in community-based psychiatric care, awareness of addiction issues, and familiarity with the concept of Recovery in Mental Health
• A commitment to participate in new methods in health improvement and care delivery, including shared care.
• Candidates must join the Medical Staff of Vancouver Coastal Health if they are not already a member.

Reporting Relationship:
The psychiatrist will report to the Medical Manager of the Child & Youth Mental Health Program for Vancouver Community Mental Health & Addiction Services.
