Job Posting
full time Physician - Psychiatry at ACT/AHBT/Transitions/MHES/OPD
Richmond, British Columbia
Job ID: 5126

Richmond is seeking a psychiatrist with community mental health and concurrent disorder experience to join our psychiatric Acute Home Based Treatment (AHBT), Transitions and Assertive Community Treatment Programs. The position includes part-time roles in these programs to create a full-time equivalent position.

The Acute Home Based Treatment (AHBT) program provides treatment for patients with mental health and substance abuse to patients in their home. This program delivers service in a multidisciplinary fashion.

The Transitions Program provides assessment and treatment for patients with concurrent disorders. This service is delivered in an outpatient setting in which care is shared by psychiatrists as well as clinicians. Transitions incorporates group therapy and alternate treatment strategies for patients suffering from concurrent disorders. There is a potential for involving the psychiatrist in group therapy.

The Richmond Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team is a unique service delivery approach for individuals struggling with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Individualized assessment and treatment, rehabilitation and support services are provided to clients in their communities rather than in traditional office settings. The team helps clients deal with housing stability issues and criminal justice system involvement while addressing mental health and addiction disorders with low client-to-staff ratio, frequent contact and 24/7 operations. The psychiatrist with the team provides clinical assessment, treatment and rehabilitation during regular business hours.

Richmond Out-Patient Services (OPD) is based in Richmond Hospital and provides consultation and short-term management of general mental health conditions of a moderate severity. The majority of referrals are from Family Physicians in the community, the Emergency Department, as well as the In-Patient Unit. The Out-Patient department also has a robust group program and the successful candidate would participate in the development and running of groups.

MHES is based in Richmond Community and provides consultation and emergency intervention in support of the Richmond Mental Health Emergency Service (MHES). The physician would provide consultative assessments and emergency interventions to individuals referred to MHES on an outreach community basis.

The successful candidate will become a member of the Richmond Department of Psychiatry and participate in the department’s on-call group.
