The Fraser Health Authority (FHA), British Columbia’s and Canada’s largest and fastest growing Health Region is seeking qualified and dedicated locum Anesthesiologists at Surrey Memorial Hospital. Opportunities exist in Thoracic, Obstetric, General Adult and Pediatric Anesthesia. Surrey Memorial Hospital is a UBC affiliated tertiary referral setting.

The Department of Anesthesia currently has 28 members and participates in wide ranging perioperative care. There are two in house 24 hour on call anesthesiologists, one dedicated to the busy obstetrical ward and one for all other surgical emergencies. Surgical anesthesia includes orthopedics, urology, ENT/OMF, thoracic surgery, plastic surgery, general surgery and gynecology. Regular pediatric ENT and urology as well as pediatric general and orthopedic emergency surgery should be anticipated. The department maintains involvement in all aspects of perioperative care including pre-operative assessment and optimization, post-operative short term monitored care and an acute pain service. In addition to the tertiary care facility at SMH the department staffs the 6 OR Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgical Centre.

Applicants must be FRCPC certified and eligible for College of Physicians and Surgeons licensure in BC. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. A limited number of qualified candidates will be invited for an interview.

Surrey Memorial is a 611 acute care bed, University of BC Affiliated, regional referral and community teaching hospital that has the busiest emergency in BC. We offer medical, surgical, neonatal intensive care, tertiary, ambulatory, cardiology, rehab, as well as 24/7 emergency services with 158,558 visits annually. We currently manage 4,200 births per year and have recently opened a new tower with a 46 bed single room maternity care unit, a 48 bed single room Level 2/3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a dedicated maternal operating room. The brand new ER includes a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department, part of the state-of the art Critical Care Tower includes a dedicated perinatal centre, helipad and expanded ICU.
