Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse/New Grad Nurse-Child & Adolescent Mental Health

BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) cares for the province’s most acutely ill or injured children and youth, provides developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC, and offers a broad range of health services. Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children (SHHC), a leading provincial facility offering specialized services to children and youth with developmental disabilities from birth to age 19, works collaboratively with BCCH. SHHC focuses on the child and their family while supporting health care professionals in their community. BCCH also operates a wide number of specialized health programs, is a leading acute care teaching facility, and conducts research to advance health and care through the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute and in partnership with the University of British Columbia.

BCCH and SHHC are agencies of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) which plans, manages and evaluates specialty and province-wide health care services across BC. We are accepting applications for casual nursing opportunities in the following Mental Health programs at BC Children’s Hospital:

Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Emergency (CAPE)
A six-bed unit providing emergency psychiatric assessments and stabilization for children and adolescents in crisis up to and including the age of 16 years. CAPE is a short-term stay unit with an average stay of three to five days.

Child Psychiatry Inpatient Unit
A 10-bed unit that provides inpatient psychiatric services to children under 12 years old from mainland BC and theYukon. Children are generally admitted to the Child Psychiatry program through a planned admission process.

Provincial Specialized Eating Disorders Program for Children & Adolescents
Providing care including supportive counseling to patients and their families, life-skills teaching to patients, teaching and providing meal support therapy to patients, friends and families and professionals in the community, advocating for patients, and medical monitoring.

Adolescent Psychiatry
A 10-bed unit providing psychiatric assessments and treatment for adolescents. The average length of stay is four weeks. Adolescents are generally admitted to the program through a planned admission process.

Qualifications:
• Graduation from a recognized program in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
• Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia (CRPNBC).
• One (1) year of recent experience working in a child/adolescent psychiatric pediatric mental health care setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
