Psychiatric Liaison Nurse-Educator

The Provincial Assessment Centre (PAC) is a designated mental health facility serving clients with intellectual disabilities and concurrent psychiatric, psychological and or behavioral issues. PAC provides short term assessment and treatment to support client community care needs and quality of life.

The Role:
The Psychiatric Liaison Nurse-Educator works collaboratively with an inter-professional care team in the provision of person-centered and recovery oriented care. Duties include intake assessment and scheduling, community service planning, and input into the care of psychiatric and concurrent disordered clients at PAC. In conjunction with the PAC Social Worker and other PAC clinicians, the Psychiatric Liaison Nurse-Educator is an important facilitator of communication and education with families and community care providers.

This role also includes an exciting opportunity to advance clinical learning and the development of an educational framework for PAC. Researching best practice and supporting the advancement of care will be an important part of this role. Individuals with past educational experience will find this a rewarding chance to be creative in the advancement of clinical education for nurses, allied health professionals, and mental health support workers. Additionally, this position provides education/training to community partners and family about mental illness, behavioural support strategies, and the use of psychiatric medications and other treatment strategies.

As required, the Psychiatric Liaison Nurse-Educator will be required to cover unit nursing duties, this includes direct nursing care or team leader functions. Shift work may also be required.

Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC). Bachelor’s degree in Nursing plus 3 years of recent related clinical experience in the designated clinical area, including 1 year of education and/or leadership experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Completion of post graduate course work and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area. Preference will be given to those with experience in working within mental health, developmental disability services, and the community.

Travel throughout the Province is required to complete client assessments. Driving in winter conditions, as needed. Use of own vehicle on expenses. Transportation arrangements must meet operational requirements of CLBC.

Successful applicants are subject to a Criminal Record Check (Criminal Records Review Act) and are required to provide a clean Driver’s Abstract.
