The Moncton Hospital, a facility within Horizon Health Network, is recruiting a full-time Thoracic Surgeon. The department at present consists of five and a half general surgeons, two hepatopancreatobiliary surgeons, two thoracic and two vascular surgeons. The senior thoracic surgeon will be retiring within the next year.

Applicants must be eligible for licensure in New Brunswick and hold subspecialty certification in Thoracic Surgery. Applicants will be expected to deliver appropriate inpatient and outpatient services in the field of Thoracic Surgery and provide on-call coverage in coordination with other members of the Division of Thoracic Surgery. A typical weekly schedule will include:

• Daily inpatient rounds
• Operating sessions as assigned by the OR Utilization Committee
• Inpatient consultations
• Hospital-based clinics
• Office hours
• Involvement in teaching residents and medical students
• Bronchoscopy suite
NCIC affiliated and opportunities exist for research

Start Date
Standard remuneration for the position is based on New Brunswick Medicare’s Alternate Funding Plan for Thoracic Surgery, approximately $457,000/year based on credentials and experience. Financial provision to support the physician’s practice is also available. If one chooses to participate in call for another specialty, they will receive the mandated on-call stipend and fee-for-service billings plus premiums.

Qualification Requirements
The Department of General Surgery, specific to its divisions of General Surgery, requires that its active and courtesy members have passed the examination of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

In special circumstances, the Division of Thoracic Surgery will consider physicians with FRCS (C) equivalency, i.e. who have passed American Boards or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of the United Kingdom examinations and who are guaranteed full licensure from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
