BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns and families. It provides a broad range of specialized women’s health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. BC Women’s is one of the largest maternity facilities in Canada, with over 7,000 births a year, and is both the major primary and secondary maternity services provider in the Lower Mainland and the cornerstone of the provincial tertiary care system. Medical Lead – Low Risk Obstetrics, Postpartum and Newborn Care

Applications are being accepted for the Medical Lead, Low Risk Obstetrics, Postpartum and Newborn Care at BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre. This position reports to the Senior Medical Director, Maternal Newborn Program at BCW. This position is a 0.20 FTE of clinical leadership/administration. The Medical Lead Low Risk Obstetrics, Postpartum and Newborn Care is a member of the Maternal Newborn Leadership team at BC Women’s Hospital.

You have an affinity for leadership in an academic health centre. You have an ability to work in a multi-professional unit, collaborating with partners in nursing, internal medicine, anesthesia and all types of obstetrical and newborn care providers. Working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team, you will contribute to the senior leadership of BC Women’s Maternal Newborn Team.

You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You are capable of leading staff, problem solving, achieving results, and developing coalitions. You have proven experience in building positive partnerships with strategic partners.

You are committed to your clinical practice and strive to provide the highest level of care possible to women and newborns. A strong communicator and facilitator, you possess mentoring abilities and have an enthusiasm for teaching. You lead by example by providing support to your department members and developing strong working relationships through inter-professional collaboration.

Additional Comments
In this role, you will apply your knowledge and experience to monitor operations and lead continuous quality improvement for the postpartum units and programs while remaining a practicing physician. You will participate in collaborative development of clinical practice standards with other departments and hospital programs.

Along with specialty training in Obstetrics & Gynecology, or CCFP Accrediation for Family Physicians you are registered with, or eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Leadership and/or administrative experience would be beneficial. The ideal candidate will have or be eligible for a faculty appointment at the University of British Columbia.
