The Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, New Brunswick is recruiting a full-time general surgeon. The successful applicant will join a team of 4 surgeons with 6 OR rooms. The candidate is expected to participate in the teaching of students and residents in medicine.

Overview of The Chaleur Regional Hospital – The Chaleur Regional Hospital provides a wide range of primary services, secondary specialized and regional including most of all the major surgical services, with the With 215 beds, 90 family physicians and 62 specialists, it serves a population of 75,000 The Chaleur Regional Hospital is an authorize partner of the francophone program of Family Medicine of the University of Sherbrooke and of the program of Nursing at the University of Moncton and the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.

The Chaleur Regional Hospital is under major renovations. The five-storey building with a total area of approximately 11,507 square meters will add new patient and birth rooms, as well as dialysis, outpatient, oncology, pediatric and administrative services. A new intensive care unit officially opened in January 2014. The unit, which covers 1,431 square metres (15,900 square feet), can accommodate 10 intensive care patients as well as five step-down patients. It represents an investment of $13.4 million. The facilities are ultramodern, with more spacious patient rooms and dedicated observation stations. “This unit is an important addition to the delivery of critical care for patients in the region.

Overview of the regional health authority – Vitalité Health Network is one of the two regional health authorities in New Brunswick. The Network is the only Francophone managed organization of its kind in the country and provides services in nearly 70 sites and points of service throughout four health zones, covering all of the northern region and part of the southeastern region of the province. Services and care are provided in the official language chosen by the patient and are available at home, in the community, or in a facility, according to needs. The range of services includes disease prevention and health promotion, treatment of illness, rehabilitation, home care, and palliative care. Additional services provided by hospital facilities include public health, community mental health, addiction, community health centres, the Extra-Mural Program, and veterans’ centres. The Network is also active in the training and research fields, which helps to keep the staff’s skills up to date and plan for succession. HOURS OF WORK
• According to the agreement determined by the Service/Department Head
• After-hours and weekend calls are shared among all members of the Department.

JOB DUTIES
This is professional medical work performed by certified specialists (those with a specialty certification as recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NB). Duties are performed with considerable clinical independence in the diagnosis, care and treatment of medical disorders within the scope of the specialty in which they are practicing. Work is performed with independent judgment but findings and observations may be subject to supervision and assessment by the physician’s Clinical (Program) Department Head / Chief of Service / Program Director in which the physicians works. Review of work may also be supervised by the local and regional Chiefs of Staff and the zone’s Medical Director for the Regional Health Authority (RHA). The physician works within the accordance of the RHA Bylaws.

REMUNERATION:
Standard remuneration is fee-for-service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. No source deductions can be provided.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduate from an approved school of medicine supplemented by post-graduate study in the area of specialization (Surgery)
• The candidate must have his certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification (FRCPC)
• The candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick. https://www.cpsnb.org/

NATURE DU TRAVAIL
Le poste comprend un travail médical professionnel effectué par des spécialistes agréés (titulaires d’un certificat de spécialiste reconnu par le Collège des médecins et chirurgiens du Nouveau-Brunswick). Le spécialiste agréé a une grande autonomie clinique par rapport au diagnostic, au soin et au traitement des troubles médicaux relevant de son domaine de spécialisation. Il exerce un jugement indépendant, mais les résultats et les observations peuvent faire l’objet d’une surveillance et d’une évaluation du chef du service ou du programme clinique du médecin, du chef de service ou du directeur médical du service auquel il est rattaché. Le travail peut aussi être surveillé par les médecins en chef local et régional, le directeur médical de la zone de la régie régionale de la santé (RRS). Le médecin se conforme aux règlements administratifs de la RRS.

RÉMUNÉRATION:
La rémunération se fonde sur une formule de rémunération à l’acte selon laquelle l’Assurance-maladie du Nouveau-Brunswick verse directement au personnel médical les honoraires pour tout service rendu. Aucune retenue à la source ne peut être offerte.
